What is Celly? • Social networking tool via text • Allows anyone to create a network (cell) —anywhere! • Links people through text messaging cells • Allows users to remain private • Works on any phone with text messaging • Just text to join
How does it work? • User joins a “cell” with a username • Cell can remain private, or be linked to another cell • Free!! • Works with texting, android app, email, web
In the Classroom • Utilize constant cell use in schools • Allow shy or bored students options • Can write out ideas • Don’t have to use their name • Conversations inside and outside classroom • Group messages can be monitored
Pros • FREE!! • Using phone for an academic purpose • Allows shy students to voice opinions • Forces students to clearly write out thoughts • Safe environment for sharing ideas • Phone number stays private!
Cons • Distractions!! • Allows students to be on their phones • Disparity among those without phones/comp • Some students may dominate conversation • Some students still won’t participate
Other Uses • Rally • Event • Business • Can send to one person, group where each message is moderated, to a group like a mass email
What do you think? • Do you think teachers will actually use Celly in their classrooms? Should they? • Would you have liked to use Celly as a student?
My Opinion • Texting while keeping number safe is great • Too many distractions available • May be better as an out of class option
