Q: can the largest environmental alliance in Australian history become a catalyst for change?
The Agreed Problem: “There is not enough visible public support in Australia for nature conservation to ensure that our natural places and wildlife are protected.”
The agreed vision A prosperous and healthy Australia where nature is valued and protected by our political and economic systems, championed by a powerful and effective constituency.
3 core elements • Collective Impact: collaboration on steroids • Movement Building: a powerful constituency for nature • Co-design: solutions designed, debated and delivered by the community
Collective Impact • A common agenda • Shared measurement • Mutually reinforcing activities • Continuous communication • Backbone support
Movement Building • Directly addresses the agreed problem • A powerful constituency for nature is our heritage • Mobilisation around issues vs Movement around values • Requires reactive and proactive approaches
Co-Design Vision: A prosperous and healthy Australia where nature is valued and protected by our political and economic systems, championed by a powerful and effective constituency. This requires “ownership” of the solutions by the constituency. This is different to what most of us do at the moment.
PYL’s 3 Programs • The Defensive Campaign: our legacy to protect the laws that protect nature • Movement Building: building a constituency for nature as a collective • Vision 2025: what does Australia look like a decade from now if we actually looked after nature adequately?
