The gods of Mesopotamia • “Anu” was the god that govern the sky - a Mesopotamian deity worshipped in ziggurats at the time that Abraham lived in Ur. • Ziggurats or “towers” (tower of babel) were meant to connect the earth and the cosmos, a sort of platform from which the gods could be reached/contacted. • Each “tower” was topped by a shrine, used only by the priests who were servants of the god to whom the tower was dedicated.

The gods of Mesopotamia • “Ishtar” Queen of the night, was associated with sexuality: her cult involved sacred prostitution;her holy city Uruk was known as "town of the sacred courtesans"; and she herself was the "courtesan of the gods".
Moloch • A god worshipped by the Phoenicians and other ancient cultures, Moloch required a propitiatory child sacrifice by parents. (II Kings 23:10; Jer. 32:35, etc.)
