  2. stanza • A section or division of a poem; specifically, a grouping of lines that develops one idea. I AM FAST AND FUN by Tasha (Age 9) I am fast and fun. I can dream, dreams that nobody has dreamt before. I would go on adventures all over the world. I want to write out my imagination. I enjoy seeing peace. I am fast and fun. I want to fly and taste the air. I am not afraid to say what I want. I feel such smooth things that touch my fingers. I find such pretty things in nature. I am fast and fun. I want to be a soccer star. I think hard about things. I wonder where we go when we fade. I feel so great when I help someone.

  3. rhyme • when two words sound the same at the end Whenever Richard Cory went down town,We people on the pavement looked at him;He was a gentleman from sole to crownClean favored and imperially slim. • Richard Cory

  4. mood • the atmosphere or feeling created in a piece of writing A feeling of love. A feeling of doom. A feeling of fear. A feeling of pride. An atmosphere of chaos. An atmosphere of peace.

  5. repetition • Sometimes writers want to make sure that you get the point of a certain sentence or idea, so he or she repeats certain words or groups of words. Pay attention to words that are repeated. Sometimes repeated words can help you figure out what's coming next in a piece of writing. And miles to go before I sleep,And miles to go before I sleep.(Frost, "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening")

  6. rhythm • the pattern of sounds made by varying the stressed and unstressed syllables in a poem • My cat is nice.My cat is fat.My cat is cute.I like my cat. • my CAT | is NICE.my CAT | is FAT.my CAT | is CUTE.i LIKE | my CAT.

  7. Literal language • means exactly what it says A rose is the physical flower.

  8. Figurative language • the special language authors use to create pictures in the reader’s mind When she became embarrassed, her cheeks turned into roses.

  9. alliteration • When sounds are repeated, it is called alliteration. My big brother bought a baseball. In this sentence, the b sound is repeated.

  10. personification • a figure of speech in which human characteristics are attributed to animals, plants, inanimate objects, natural forces or abstract ideas The moon followed me.

  11. simile • a figure of speech that uses ‘like’, ‘as’, or ‘as if’ to compare two essentially different objects, actions, or attributes. His fingers were as cold as ice. Andy ran like a cheetah.

  12. metaphor • a figure of speech in which two things are compared, usually by saying one thing is another Kyle is a chicken.
