Horizonte is a progressive, nontraditional school in the Salt Lake City School District. Our goal is to provide a rigorous foundation of education and skills necessary for students to achieve self-sufficiency and become contributing participants in society.
About Horizonte • We are accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission. • We partner with the Urban Institute for Teacher Education at the University of Utah • We received a School Improvement Grant to improve student performance inmath and language arts • Students have access to district Career Technical Education classes • We have multiple sites to meet individual student needs

Advisory program • Each student is assigned a teacher advisor • Advisors monitor student progress, attendance, grades and graduation goals • Advisors are the liaison between parents and school • Advisors assists students with college and scholarship applications, and career pathways
Parents As Partners • Open door policy day and evening • On-line access to student attendance and academic progress • Monthly School Community Council • Parent-teacher conferences every session • Attendance and Academic Achievement award assemblies every session

Attendance is the greatest indicator of school success. • You will be contacted if your student is absent • Please make sure that we have your current contact information at all times. • Please notify the school if your student needs to leave early • You can view your child's attendance via the Parent Portal on Powerschoolor call the school directly
Positive Learning Environment • Be respectful • Be there, be ready • Follow directions • Be responsible • Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
Closed campus • Once on school property, student cannot leave without proper release from the office • Only parents/guardians are authorized to check students out of school • Students may not leave campus for lunch or snacks • Students may not go to the parking lot • Parents will be contacted if the student leaves campus without permission during school hours
Dress Code • Students are not allowed to wear… • Clothing that is all one color or wearing the same color every day • Red or blue hair ties, shoe laces, or lanyards (black or white only) • Clothing, or jewelry with numbers • Gang affiliated clothing, jewelry, or tattoos • Immodest clothing (halter tops, bare midriffs, low-cut shirts, shorts and skirts must reach fingertips) • Hats, bandanas or other headwear
No cell phones All cell phones and ipods must be turned off when you enter the building
Horizonte Opportunities • Credit recovery is available to students who are currently passing all classes as well as summer classes and workshops • Advance Placement Classes and College Prep Classes
Horizonte Opportunities • Extracurricular activities include intramural sports, MESA club, Latinos in Action, and Mayor’s Youth Council • Field trips are offered throughout the year • Juniors and seniors may participate in the Salt Lake Community College pipeline program
