Goal of this presentation • Overview of key aspects of the School Report Card (SRC) and the School Experience Survey Reports (SES) • Provide hands-on experience using data from the Survey Report
Handouts • Power Point notes • Local District high school survey findings
Opening questions • What is the difference between the School Report Card and the School Experience Survey? • When is the SRC sent to parents? • When is the SES administered to parents? • When are the findings from the SES posted on the web?
School Experience Survey • Takes place each spring • All elementary school parents, all staff, and students as young as 3rd grade participate • Results are reported in aggregate form on the School Report Card • Separate 20-page reports are available online
What are response rates? • A response rate is the percentage of people who, when given a survey, complete it • Response rates are calculated by dividing the number of people who complete a survey by the number of people who received it • All elementary parents received a survey • Around 25% of secondary parents received a survey • Why are response rates important?
What parents across LAUSD told us • More than 80% of parents said they received a School Report Card • Almost 90% said it was easy to read • Almost 90% said it helped them become involved in their children’s education
Practice with School Experience Survey User’s Guide (09-10) Group assignment • Determine response rate from handout • Brainstorm and chart 3 ways to increase response rates
