2014 Program Review Activity • Reviewed 218 programs: • 98 doctoral, 87 internship, 33 post-doctoral • 78% granted continued or initial accreditation (3-7 year cycle) • 3% granted “accreditation, on contingency” • 14% programs “deferred for information” • 4% programs “deferred for cause” • 1% programs “accredited on probation”

Update on CoA Portal • Beta test of self-study online module – module opened in Fall 2014 for a test run for a few internship and postdoctoral programs per level (self-studies due January 1, 2015) • System set to open in February 2015 for programs scheduled for a site visit in 2016 (self-study due September 1, 2015) • Site visitor registration – site visitors will have IDs and passwords to update their information by the first half of 2015
SoA Development • Process began at CoA policy meeting 3 years ago (Spring, 2012) • Extensive, systematically solicited public comment from constituents in two phases (Summer, 2012 – Summer, 2013) • Phase 1 (34 questions): 4 overarching questions; 10 questions for each level of training • Phase 2 (40 questions): 20 questions for doctoral/internship; 20 questions for postdoc • Open Forums:Convention (2012, 2013), mid-winter training council meetings (2013), virtual town hall meetings (2013)
SoA Development • Development of draft SoA(late Summer/Fall 2013) • SoA drafted and submitted for legal review • Adopted by CoA for public comment (October 2013) • 6-month public comment on draft SoA(Jan–July, 2014) • Convention Open Forum (Aug, 2014) • Revisions made to draft SoA incorporating public comment (July – October, 2014)
Standards of Accreditation (SoA) in Health Service Psychology • Formally adopted by CoA (unanimous vote), Oct, 2014 • Reviewed by APA Governance: • BEA (Nov, 2014) • Final technical edits and legal review completed (Jan 12, 2015) • Review by Board of Directors and APA Council of Reps scheduled (Feb, 2015)

Supporting Documents – SoA Intro • Key change: definition of Health Service Psychology “…as the integration of psychological science and practice to facilitate healthy human development and functioning…. includes work in diverse settings and encompasses a wide range of professional activities….” • Public comment (Nov-Dec, 2014) – was reviewed by CoA at Feb, 2015 Policy Meeting for potential adoption and forward to APA Governance
Supporting Documents – Accreditation Operating Procedures (AOP) • Key changes: • Programs can be accredited for up to 10 years • Eligibility status and contingent accreditation for doctoral programs • Two (vs. 3) review cycles for internships and postdocs • Clearer indication that site visitor selection is responsibility of CoA • Public comment (Nov-Dec, 2014) – was reviewed by CoA at February, 2015 Policy Meetingfor potential adoption and forward to APA Governance
Supporting Documents – Implementing Regulations (IRs) CoA currently working on several IRs and expects to post for public comment beginning Spring, 2015 for potential adoption by end of 2015.
Key Implementing Regulations (IRs) All levels of training: • Profession Wide Competencies – details regarding expectations for and evaluating competencies • Direct observation – expectations regarding frequency of observation, what counts as direct observation, who can observe • SV selection – who is eligible, how selected Doctoral training: • New applications– eligible to apply; accredited on contingency • Discipline Specific Knowledge– details regarding areas of and expectations for coverage • Faculty qualifications –degrees and training expectations
SoA Implementation - Training • Self-study & Site Visitor training • Revisions to: • Instructions/report templates • Training -- online training modules and workshops • Self-study online submission • For programs undergoing re-accreditation: those with site visit in 2017 • For new applicants: to be determined • Training materials development and implementation accomplished with support of new dedicated staff position • Will include training on the new Standards, completing a self-study, and how to be a site visitor
SoA Implementation – Roll-out Summary CoA’s estimate of timeline assuming smooth progress: • Early 2015 • Final approval of SoA and AOP • IRs written and out for public comment • Training material development initiated • Late 2015 • IRs revised & finalized • Training materials developed • Training on new Standards of Accreditation • Sept 1, 2016– first self-studies using SoA due for programs assigned to a Spring 2017 site visit.
