Greeting • Dear Michael,<--- Greeting • The greeting means “hello”. Usually, all of the words, which are a part of the greeting, are capitalized. A comma follows the greeting.
Heading • Heading --->455 East Main Street Anytown, Pennsylvania 44556 January 6th, 2001 • The heading of a letter should contain the return address, which includes the street address on one line, followed by the city, state and zip code on the next line. The third line is the date.
Body • Let me tell you some of the reasons I hope you will never smoke.…… Body---> • The body of the letter contains the main text or message. Each paragraph should be indented.
Closing • Closing --->Sincerely, • The closing means “good-bye”. The first word of the closing begins with a capital letter. A comma follows the closing
Signature • Signature --->Jean Rogers • The signature tells who wrote the letter.

What is the goal of persuasive writing? • to state the writer’s opinion • to give reasons why the reader should agree • to convince the reader to take action Copying permitted
What topics make good persuasive writing? • Choose a topic you know something about. • Choose a topic you are interested in. • Choose a topic you have strong opinions about. Copying permitted
What are the parts of the body of a persuasive letter? • beginning - states your opinion • middle - gives two or three reasons for your opinion • end - tells the reader what action to take Copying permitted
Brush Every Night beginning - states your opinion middle - gives two or three reasons for your opinion end - tells the reader what action to take You should brush you teeth every night before bed. Brushing removes food from your teeth. It keeps them clean and healthy. If you don’t brush enough, you could get cavities. Brushing also keeps you from getting bad breath. Brushing once a day only does half the job. You need to brush every morning and every night. Copying permitted
