Percent Distribution of Cancer Cases, Women, 2003-2007, Louisiana
Statistics • Incidence rate– number of cases diagnosed in given time frame divided by susceptible population. Does not include patients who were diagnosed prior to time frame and may still be undergoing treatment. (cancer rate is X per 100,000) • Mortality rate– number of deaths in given time frame divided by susceptible population • Often other statistical calculations are done to make sure data compares apples to apples, such as age-adjusting. • Data will be “suppressed” (not reported to public) if numbers are below certain threshold. This is to protect patients confidentiality.
