As Things Changed • The Transition • January 1, 1992 through December 31, 1995 Manufacturers had the choice of doing things the same as they had in the “Bad Old Days” OR Follow the “New Approach” under the EMC Directive which allowed for testing of the Digital Device anywhere and a DoC Compliance Certification Services

  15. As Things Changed • The Transition • Under Article 10.5 of the Directive, a manufacturer could go to a Notified Body for Type Approval Certificate Then Submit to each National PTT for Approval Better but still costly in $$ and TIME Compliance Certification Services

As They Are Today • In Europe - R&TTE Directive continued • HARMONIZED • If all standards covering a product are harmonized (RSM, EMC, Safety) • AND • The frequency band is harmonized throughout all Member States • THEN • The manufacturer may apply CE Mark, draw up DoC and sell the device. As They Are Today • In Europe - R&TTE Directive continued • HARMONIZED • If all standards covering a product are harmonized (RSM, EMC, Safety) • BUT • The frequency band is not harmonized throughout all Member States • THEN • The mfg. must send letters of Notification to all M.S. that he intends to ship product into at least 4 weeks in advance of shipping the first product. As They Are Today • In Europe - R&TTE Directive continued • Non-Harmonized • If all standards covering a product are not harmonized (RSM, EMC, Safety) • THEN • The manufacturer must apply to a CAB for guidance on the proper Test Suite to follow; • Once testing is completed, compile a TCF • Apply to the CAB for approval of the TCF • Affix the CE Mark + CAB ID Number to product.
