Chapter 1 • Paul writes of his joy at Timothy’s report • He remembers their faith, hope and love • He thanks God that it is unchanged • He expresses relief (3:8)
Work of Faith • Work? See James 2:18 • JBP - your faith has meant solid achievement • NTW - the accomplishment of your faith • A living faith • means thinking the Gospel through &and bringing our hearts and minds in line
Labour of Love • The Thessalonians obviously love one another • Loving one another is an expression of our love for God • 3:6, 12-13 • 4:9 • 5:12-13 • Love can be hard work!
Steadfastness of Hope • enduring hope, patient hope • hope in a faithful God • hope in the midst of adversity and persecution • Paul & co had done their job well • Wesley - Faith works, love labours, hope patiently suffers all things
The one who calls you… • Paul had left them after only a brief time • and it was unprepared • He was worried for them • The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it. (5:24) • see also Jude 24, 3:12-13, 4:9
