Grammar: Verbs • Some verbs are more than one word. • The MAIN VERB is the most important word • The HELPING VERB comes before the main verb • Example: Ryan iswriting a science fiction story. • writing = main verb • is = helping verb

Grammar: Verb Tenses • Verb tenses tell when the action takes place • Present tense: shows the action is happening now • The girl walks the dog. • Past tense: shows the action has already happened • The girl walked the dog. • Future tense: shows that the action will happen • The girl will walk the dog. • A helping verb (have, has, or had) comes before the main verb and tells more about what happened in the past. The past participle of a regular verb is used by adding –ed. • They have watched that movie three times.
