Function:Nervous System • Send signals from cell to cell • Two ways to transfer signals • Releasing Hormones • Nervous System uses point-to-point signals called “neurons” • Much higher level of specificity

Peripheral Nervous System • Connects the CNS to limbs and organs • Split into two sections : • Somatic Nervous System • Responsible for all VOLUNTARY muscle contractions and sensory processing (Sensory & Motor Neurons) • Autonomic Nervous System • Controls internal body conditions (regulates heartbeat, respiration, etc.) • Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Division
Neurons • Nerve cells that process and transfer information • Most organelles are located in the cell body • Dendrites- membrane-covered extensions • Axon- long membrane bound projection
