Aztec Schooling • Girls and boys were in separate schools. • Their education was basically a training for marriage, although noble girls spent a year at twelve (12) or thirteen (13) helping in the temple, and some became professional priestesses.
Aztec farming/hunting • The Aztecs planted corn, tomatoes, chili peppers, and squash. • The Aztecs didn’t use plows or wheel driven vehicles at all.
Aztec Daily Life • They lived in mud-brick houses near the Chinampas- strips of land they had reclaimed from the swamps. *They wove rafts out of branches, piled reeds on top of these and covered them with mud from the bottom of the lake.
Art from the Great Temple • Teocalli means Great Temple • The image in the bottom right is the flag bearers. • On the top right is a clay urn showing Tezcatlipoca holding a pair of darts in one hand and a spear-thrower, or atlatl in his other.
Early Aztec History • 700 years ago the Aztecs left North West Mexico. • They settled in a swampy island in the middle of lake Texaco. • There city was called Tenochtitlan.
The Aztecs God • The Aztecs God was Tezcatlipoca. • Tezcatlipoca was the great bear constellation • Sometimes drawings showed with his mirror on his chest. • He was protector of slaves , he severely punished masters who ill-treated his beloved children.
