Probability. Probability is used when we have situations in which there is an element of uncertainty. Uncertainty can be associated with random experiments such as tossing a coin, throwing a die or dealing cards from a pack of playing cards.

Probability Probability is used when we have situations in which there is an element of uncertainty. Uncertainty can be associated with random experiments such as tossing a coin, throwing a die or dealing cards from a pack of playing cards. Sample Space is the set of all the possible outcomes of a random experiment.
Examples When throwing an ordinary die and noting the score, the sample space is S = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} If a card is dealt from an ordinary pack of playing cards, and the suit is noted, the sample space would be S = {hearts, clubs, diamonds, spades} If two ordinary dice are thrown and the sum of the scores on each die is noted, the sample space would be S = {2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12} Exercise 3.1 Mathematics Statistics Unit S1 - WJEC
