  3. East Asian Isolation • In 1368 Hongwu drove out Mongol invaders and established the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) • His son Yonglo replaced him in 1398. YONGLO HONGWU

  4. East Asian Isolation • Yonglo launched 7 voyages led by the famous admiral Zheng He. • The voyages were massive. Some voyages had over 27000 members. • These voyages led to increased prestige for China and contributed to European interest in China. Zheng He’s ship compared to the Santa Maria

  10. EAST ASIAN ISOLATION • Tokugawa becomes Shogun of all of Japan (1600)and he moves the capital to Edo, which later becomes Tokyo. This is known as the Tokugawa Shogunate, and lasted until 1867. • How did Tokugawa handle the other daimyo?
