The Challenge of Time-Based Media loans • The work of art is not synonymous with a unique physical object and it is not always clear what is to be lent • Works are either “thinly” or “thickly” specified – the details of the installation need to be clearly understood and communicated

Finally….. • We need to communicate what is important to a good installation of the work taking into consideration both material and immaterial elements – this may require greater dialogue between borrower and lender than for more traditional works.
