  2. Fellowship Workshops • Friday Afternoons / Usually one or two candidates • Executive Director and Governor did a step by step walk through the application process • Culminated in: • 11 new Fellows in 2014 • 7 of those walked with us at Convocation

  3. Newsletter • Attempt to inform Members of the Valuable Services ACP Offers and what's going on • Governor writes rough first draft followed by editing and polishing by brighter younger associate • BOG highlights / Hot Topics / New Services / Advocacy / National and Chapter Meeting News

  4. Guest Speaker • We were delighted to have the ACP Star of Clinical Pearls Dr. Scott Litin Speak at Grand Rounds / Chairman's Conference on Presentations • This was a very practical guide on how to make a successful presentation • Dr. Thigpen organized this and arranged for a workshop afterwards for the Chief Residents

  5. Leadership Day • Dr. Ben Horton and Dr. Wes Aldred went with Dr. Woodliff to Leadership Days / It's 2 days in Washington D.C. • 1st day – Preparation by Nationally known Speakers on the Legislative Process and Advocacy • 2nd day – actual visits with congressmen, senators, and their staff • Our primary focus this year was increasing funding for Graduate Medical Education

  6. Evergreen Award • Given to Chapters that foster careers in Internal Medicine, improve communication, and enhance diversity • The Mississippi Chapter entered it's Associate / Resident Council which has accomplished all of these goals with: • Community service projects like the Wellness Fair at Jackson Free Clinic • Career mentoring • Debates on Obesity and other health topics • Congratulations to Dr. Calvin Thigpen and our Residents for their vision and hard work

  7. Residents Council • Started in 2006 • Multiple purposes • Link the residents to ACP and organized medicine • Keep residents attuned to issues in public health • Encourage scholarship • Provide opportunity for community service

  9. Abstract Day • Celebration of scholarship of MS students, residents, & fellows • Fifty abstracts presented • 44 poster presentations • 6 oral presentations • Involvement of faculty as judges, mentors • Former Governor Sam Peeples, MD, FACP

  11. Jackson Free Clinic • Run by UMMC medical students • Resident council members volunteer • Screening Day in late April • Blood pressure • Blood glucose • Lipids • Dietary counseling

Subspecialty Fellows Council • Started in 2011 • Multiple purposes • Encourage participation in ACP after residency • Provide bridge to department leadership for fellows • Increase cohesiveness among fellows • Increase participation in scientific meetings • Increase teaching opportunities for fellows
