  2. Summary • The Reeve was an old and skinny man that kept bins and garners for grain. He also had animals. • He collects money from the people in town to serve their lord. • The Reeve took more money than he needed but he never got caught. • Nobody tried to catch him, he knew their tricks. • He became rich and had a store full of treasures. • He rode off on his horse, Scot, in a cavalcade.

  3. Job Description/Social Position • The Reeve collects money from all the people in town so they can serve their lord. • He was also a carpenter when he was young.

  4. Physical Appearance • The Reeve was old, choleric, and thin. • His beard was shaved closely to his skin and he had short hair. • His legs were like sticks, no claves to be seen. • Since he has a thin body and calfless legs he is is said to be impatient, easily angered, obstinate, and vengeful.

  5. Personality Traits/Name • The Reeve is selfish and greedy, he takes money from the people of the town for his own good. • He doesn’t have a name.

  6. Key Lines • “And he could judge by watching drought and rain The yield he might expect from seed and grain” This shows that he was very good at his job. • “A better hand at bargains than his lord, He had grown rich and had a store of treasure” He was smart and understood how to get ahead/what he wanted.

  7. Chaucer’s Attitude Toward Him/Her • Chaucer didn’t really have an attitude toward him, he was pretty neutral. • He had some nice things to say about him but also negative. • There were probably more negative about him that positive though.
