  2. A new Race • Aryan • Previously we defined as: Indo-European peoples who began to migrate into the Indian subcontinent around 1500 B.C. • Nazi definition: Germanic people – the master race • Implication • All non-Aryans were inferior

  3. Hitler’s Process • Nuremburg Laws • 1935 • Limited human rights for Jews • No longer citizens • Could not marry non-Jews • Tapped into age-old hatred • Blamed Jews for • WWI Loss • Economic Problems

Emigration & Deportation Jews were not welcome in Germany and many were deported to Poland Other Jews emigrated Hitler will conquer most areas they moved into • Refugee: • a person who flees for refuge or safety, especially to a foreign country, as in time of political upheaval, war, • Ghetto: • Segregated areas where Nazis forced Jews to live

  5. Kristallnacht • Nov. 7,1938 • Grynzpan (17) shoots a German diplomat in Paris after hearing of his deportation • Nov. 9, 1938 • Nazis attack Jewish community • 100 murdered in Germany
