  2. 1. What was the quality of life for peasants in the Middle Ages, and what caused this? • Object poverty and insecurity • Toiled to produce enough to eat and drink, clothes to wear, and shelter • Hardship caused by storms, flood, crop failure, sterility, illness, and premature death

  3. What were the primary concerns for these people? • Producing adequate crops • Fertility of fields

  4. How did they employ magic to relieve these concerns? • Blessings by the clergy • Placing of holy things • Burial of the dead • Rituals for all trades and aspects of living: fishing, farming, cooking, etc.
