The Rise of Champagne Barons de Rothschild NFT Marketplace WINECHAIN.CO
In pursuit of excellence Anyone who knows wine knows the winemaking branches of the Rothschild family are responsible for some of the world's most coveted wines. Legendary names, which conjure images of the finest Bordeaux: Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild, along with the dazzling Château Clarke, bottles international collectors long to add to their cellars.
History of Champagne Barons de Rothschild While the family has around 170 years of winemaking experience under their collective belt, Champagne Barons de Rothschild is a modern affair. This thrilling venture is the brainchild of Baron Philippe Sereys de Rothschild (Château Mouton Rothschild), Baron Benjamin and his wife Ariane (Château Clarke), and Baron Eric and his daughter Saskia (Château Lafite Rothschild). For the first time in history, the three branches have joined together, and the results are nothing short of remarkable.
The Rothschilds made their first foray into winemaking in 1853 when Nathaniel de Rothschild purchased the estate we know today as Château Mouton Rothschild. Just 15 years later, his father-in-law James de Rothschild acquired the nearby Château Lafite, cementing the family's presence in one of the world's most esteemed wine regions. Through the decades, each generation has made its stamp on these venerable estates, bringing ever-increasing acclaim to the Rothschild name.
Winemaking at Champagne Barons de Rothschild The wines are vinified in small containers built especially for the house. The reason? To preserve the unique terroirs of the various Grand and Premier cru villages the Rothschilds source their grapes. With Champagne, blending and aging are of equal importance as terroir and the quality of the grapes destined for the wine. Upwards of 40 percent of reserve wines make their way into the non-vintage cuvées, infusing the wines with borderline opulent richness.
Champagne Barons de Rothschild Wines The raison d'etre driving Champagne Barons de Rothschild is to craft graceful, sophisticated wines that highlight some of the region's most remarkable sites. This is Champagne for collectors and connoisseurs. From meticulously crafted non-vintage cuvées to coveted limited releases from exemplary vintages, crafted exclusively through a luxurious blend of Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages.
The Rothschild Rare Collection features a stunning blanc de blancs and a superb rosé, both from the much-celebrated and sought-after 2013 vintage. The Rosé itself lives up to the Rare name. It's crafted from 92 percent Chardonnay, with the small remainder made up by Pinot Noir red wine, and is partially aged in oak. This oak treatment gives it gorgeous spice and vanilla notes, which beautifully complement the racy character of the Chardonnay. Any of the Barons de Rothschild's Champagnes can comfortably age for several years, with the house's top bottles offering the promise of prolonged aging, upwards of a decade - if you can bear to wait, that is.
