Guidance to muslims (Al-Qaradawi, 1984) • All things created by Allah SWT are permitted (halal) except those are specifically prohibited (haram) • To make lawful and unlawful is the right of Allah SWT alone • Reasons for prohibition are impurity and harmfulness • If something is haram, anything leading to it is also haram • Doubtful things should be avoided
Haram food (QS Al-Maidah: 3) • Carrion or dead animal • Flowing or congealed blood • Swine, including all by-products • Animal slaughtered without pronouncing the name of Allah SWT, animal killed in a manner that prevents their blood from being fully drained • Animal slaughtered while pronouncing a name other than Allah SWT • Intoxicant (alcohol, khmar) (QS Al Maidah : 90)

Halal Control Points (HCPs) untuk RPH • HCP1 : Binatangnya harus halal • HCP2 : Sebelum disembelih binatang harus diperlakukan dg baik (diberi minum, istirahat) • HCP3 : Stunning diperbolehkan asal tdk sampai membuat binatang mati. Tanpa stunning lebih utama
Halal Control Points (HCPs) untuk RPH • HCP4 : pisau harus tajam • HCP5 : penyembelih harus berusia dewasa, berani dan profesional • HCP6 : menyebut nama Allah selama memotong leher binatang, jgn sampai mencapai tulang leher
Halal Control Points (HCPs) untuk RPH • HCP7 : diwajibkan menyebut nama Allah selama memotong tenggorokan (bisa Bismillah atau Bismillah Allahu Akbar) • HCP8 : ditunggu sampai darah berhenti mengalir, kemudian dipotong dan dikuliti • HCP9 : Packaging and labelling dg label halal
Fish and seafood • Are not required to be killed in any religious specified manner as practiced for land animals but should be prepared in a manner that the animals do not suffer excessively. • They should not be scaled while still alive.
