How Do I Get to College? A Quick Checklist for Seniors
College Admissions Tests • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) • American College Testing (ACT) • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
Recommendation Letters • Most college applications will require two or three recommendation letters. • Recommendation Letters should primarily come from teachers, coaches, or employers. • Students should stop by the College Office, Rm. 303, and pick up a brag sheet which will list a student’s academic and extracurricular activities.
College Applications • Every senior should be obtaining and completing college applications. • CUNY (City University of New York) and SUNY (State University of New York) applications are now available online. • Common Application (commonapp.com) can be used to apply for both SUNY schools and private schools.
Application Deadlines • Deadlines are critical. Students need to be aware of when applications are due. • SUNY – Priority will be given to students who apply by December. • CUNY – General Admission Applications are due February 1. However, it is highly recommended that you apply by December 19. • Macaulay Honors Program applications are due December 2, 6:00 pm. • Private School application deadlines vary. Please check with the school’s admissions office. • NOTE: Applications that need to be processed by the College Office must be given in three weeks prior to deadline. • For example: College applications that are due January 1, must be handed in to the College Office by December 1.
