What are the Ohio Scales? • Brief, norm-referenced self-report measures • Behavioral rating scales • Parallel versions for parents, youth and clinicians • Administered at intake, then at 6-month intervals following first treatment plan, then annually
What do the Ohio Scales measure? • Behavior problems (20 items) • Functioning (20 items) • Hope (Stress and coping) (4 items) • Satisfaction with MH services (4 items) • Child placement • Markers of child adjustment
The Ohio Scales: parallel versions • Three types of informants: • Parents or primary caretakers (P-form, for children ages 5-18) • Youth(Y-form, ages 12-18) • Agency workers or clinicians (W–form, for clients ages 5-18)
Practical Use of Forms & Scores • Initial Assessment • Critical items (e.g., self-harm, drug use) • Treatment Planning • Tracking Change for outcome • Satisfaction with services • Aggregate Data (clinical & satisfaction)
One Example of Sensitivity to Change • Children in services • Parent, youth and agency worker ratings • Problem Severity
