THE CASE OF LUDMILA LLINA • Summer 1995- Ludmila Llina work up preparing for a business trip • Went to husbands bedroom- found bed not slept in and door unlocked • Outside the house she discovered her husbands bloodied body • He'd been brutally beaten, bludgeoned, dragged outside and left to die with his bicycle on top of him
LUDMILA LLINA: CASE CONTINUED • Paramedics found her sitting on her front steps with her husband’s body not far away • Police arrested her and charged her with 2nd degree murder • She has claimed innocence for the last 16 years • She was convicted, sent to prison and has exhausted her appeals
LUDMILA LLINA CASE: CONTINUED • The Innocence Project, set up at York U.’s Osgoode Hall has agreed to look at her case • The Innocence Project, set up by Alan Young is dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people • She has no previous criminal history, nor history of violence • If they can prove case was flawed, she may get a new trial and evidence used to convict her may now acquit her • This is her last appeal
