  2. WHO IS FRIDA KAHLO? Who is Frida Kahlo? Frida Kahlo is a very famous Surrealist painter. She was born July 6th 1907 and died July 13th 1954 in Coyocán Mexico. Her birth name was Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón.

  5. WHAT HAPPENED On September 17th 1925 Frida (18 years old) had a traffic accident, she was riding in a bus when it crashed in to a trolley. That caused serious injuries she had a broken spinal column, a broken collar bone, a broken pelvis, broken ribs, eleven fractures in her right leg, a crushed and dislocated right foot, dislocated shoulder and also an iron handrail pierced her abdomen and her uterus and it seriously damaged her reproductive ability.

  6. WHY SHE STARTED The reason Frida Kahlo started to paint was because of her bus accident. She had to stay in the hospital for several months and never really fully recovered. In the hospital it was very lonely, therefore she decided to start painting.

  7. FRIDA’S LOVE LIFE Frida’s life involved several break ups, re-marriages ,divorces and separations. People were very impressed with the young Frida’s paintings, but Frida wasn’t sure how good they really were. So later she brought the paintings to the famous muralist Diego Rivera. Diego was very impressed with the paintings and the young beautiful Frida. He told her to keep painting. Later they fell in love and got married. And about the same time Frida started to wear traditional Mexican dresses.

  8. Her husband Diego Rivera Diego was born in Guanajuato. In the 1920's, he became involved in the new Mexican mural movement. He began to experiment with fresco paintings on large walls. Rivera soon started his own style of large, simple figures and bold colors. Some of Rivera's best murals are in the National Palace in Mexico City and at the National Agricultural School in Chapingo, near Mexico City. He also painted a mural at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Frida Kahlo, Diego's wife, was also a Mexican painter.

  10. DiegoRivera (1886-1957) was a Mexican artist. He was famous for murals that showed Mexican life and history.
