  2. Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. v1 A Historic City v1 Past History Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. "Go, look over the land," he said, "especially Jericho." So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there. Joshua 2:1 Walls of Jericho

  3. Recent Times A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half-dead. Luke 10:30 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, Luke 18:35,39.

  4. A Chief Tax Collector v2-4 His Name A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; v2. His Occupation .. he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. v2.

  5. His Curiosity He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. Sycomore-Fig Tree

  6. An Observant Saviour v5-6 When Jesus reached the spot, He looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." So he came down at once and welcomed Him gladly. v5-6. Sycomore-Fig Tree

  8. A Critical Crowd v7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a ‘sinner’.” v7

  9. A Household’s Salvation v8-9 Repentance But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” v8

  10. Salvation Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” v9-10
