Definition of Syphilis • The definition of syphilis is a STD that can cause long term affects if not treated it can cause death.
How is it Contracted? • Syphilis can be contracted through sexual contact, open cuts or giving at birth by a mom.
Signs and symptoms • In men, a sore often appears in the genital area (but not always). These sores are often painless. • in women, sores can develop on the outer genitals. The sores are usually painless and are not easily seen.
Diagnosis and Treatment • Syphilis is simple to cure with appropriate antibiotics from a physician. • Syphilis is easy to cure in its early stages. Penicillin, an antibiotic, injected into the muscle, is the best treatment for syphilis.
Prevention “no sex is safe sex” -Jones Big-ham • To prevent getting syphilis avoid having sex. • Use latex condoms • Make sure the person you are having sex with has no STD’s
