  2. John et al.(1987) have developed a framework for instruction in all content areas based on cognitive learning theory and its application to instruction in mainstream native English-language classroom setting.

  3. There are six points of assumptions about learning according to Jonet et al.1987 Learning is goal oriented New information is linked to prior knowledge Learning requires knowledge organization Learning is Strategic Learning occurs in recursive phases Learning is influenced by development

The strategic Teaching Model identifies three recursive phases for instruction : • Preparation: activate the prior knowledge • Presentation : interact with new information (selecting, comparing, organizing and integrating activities) • application/integration: evaluate their learning, students refer back to their original goals that were established during the preparation phase)

  5. Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach (CALLA) CALLA is designed to develop the academic Language skills of limited English proficient (LEP) students in upper elementary and secondary schools.

  6. The focus of CALLA is on acquisition and use procedural skills that facilitate academic language and content learning. At the initial stages of L2 acquisition, the focus is (or should be) almost completely on the acquisition of procedural skill
