This is Grandma. She is an excellent baker. Grandma loves to bake homemade treats for her grandchildren.
Grandma has 6 grandchildren! Depending on their schedule, some days only three grandchildren come to visit Grandma.
On very special days, all six grandchildren come for a visit!
To prepare for her grandchildren's visit, Grandma bakes a delicious chocolate cake with strawberry and custard icing.
On this afternoon, Grandma has forgotten whether 3, 5, or all 6 of her grandchildren will be coming for a visit. She wants all of the cake eaten and each grandchild to get the same amount of cake. To prepare for all three possibilities, what is the smallest number of pieces into which she should cut the cake? Record your solution in your notebook and justify your thinking using words, visual, and/or numbers.
Sample LCM problem Find the least common multiple of 8 and 12. Show your work and explain how you found your answer.
Error Analysis • Review each of the solutions: • Circle any errors that you find and make corrections, if possible. • Identify the student solution that you think provides a complete and correct response to all of the components of the task. Be prepared to justify your choice.
