Untold Truths about Forced Conversions in India: Wise Up With Anubhav In today’s blog, we will learn about the hot topic of India, i.e., Hindus conversions to Islam or Christianity. And the latest and most controversial movie, released a couple of weeks back, i.e., The Kerala Story, has sparked the conversation more. Knowing that movies can never be a justified such matters, as they are primarily curated to make money. Similarly, news channels and some you tubers are also highly biased, giving only one side of the issue. Hence, here are some facts that should not be ignored before raising posing a finger on any religion. Come, let us have a look at a few of them below- Christianity and Islam have Spread Aggressively through History- Historically, both religions have aggressively undertaken conversion of non-Christians and Muslims, which was seen as a victory of their faith in One God. To begin Islam they have spread through military conquest and conversions across the world. In fact, after Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal era, Islam spread as they lured Hindus by promising them monetary benefits, administrative positions, etc. further, if history is to be seen, the era of Aurangzeb was considered the worst one for Non-Muslims. Moreover, when it comes to Christianity, well it has a bloody history of the propagation of their religion. When we see European history, the Crusades come out to be the most violent chapter of it, including the overtaking of Jerusalem by the Muslims. In India, the Charter ACT of 181 passed by the British Government permitted spread of Christianity Colonial Officers, Missionaries, and Scholars all worked together to turn “The Land of Superstition'' into Christianity. Such activities continued even after independence leading to Odisha passing an Anti-Conversion Law in 1967. State govt doubtful of the intentions of the Christian Missionaries and the work they were doing with the adivasis of Odisha and MP.
Exaggeration of Conversions Storiesin India- Even when some religions have higher and more aggressive tendency to convert, Many historians believe that other than the Aurangzeb era, there was hardly any conversion, demolition, etc., of the non-Muslims and their places of worship. Had there been mass conversions, the regions under Mughal rule like- Delhi, UP, etc., should have had a huge number of Muslims.the census 2011, says the opposite. Lakshadweep, Assam, West Bengal, and of course, Kerala happens to have a huge Muslim population. Just to note, these latter regions have seen the least influence of the Mughal era. So, the question arises that if the conversions were happening forcefully, then why did the region that has experienced the most Mughal rule have such the least Muslim population? This seems a simple case of exaggeration for now. Talking about Christianity, well, they miserably failed in India and to date, there has never been 2-3% of the Christian Population in the country. The Christian missionaries have widely understood that it is tough to get to India with their religious beliefs.
