Asking Questions • You should ask questions to the tutors during the tute/lab sessions. • Outside the tute/lab sessions, your first point of contact is the discussion forum. • Chances are some other students may have asked the same questions and your question has been answered. • You are responsible to read the forum to see what questions have been asked. Asking the same question may not necessarily be answered. • If your query is personal, or directly related to assignment answer, you can email the head tutor. Technical Issues • To complete your tutorials/labs, you will need access to the servers listed below. If you do not already have access to them, please contact RMIT ITS(www.rmit.edu.au/its) or Duty Programmer’s Desk(Building 14, Level 9, Room 2): • Yallara ( yallara.cs.rmit.edu.au ) • Numbat ( numbat.cs.rmit.edu.au ) • iWeb1 ( iweb1.cs.rmit.edu.au ) • iWeb2 ( iweb2.cs.rmit.edu.au ) RMIT Department of Computer Science and IT
iWeb Machines • There are two dedicated machines for Web Servers and Web Technology: • iweb1.cs.rmit.edu.au • iweb2.cs.rmit.edu.au • Directories for all student accounts in /iweb/username • Your yallara home directory is mounted on iweb machine, therefore you can see your yallara home directory from iweb machine, but not vice versa. • These machines are not backed up, therefore regularly copy all assignment files RMIT Department of Computer Science and IT
Unix Basic • In order to successfully complete this subject, it is advisable that you learn a bit about Unix basic commands. In this course, you will use Unix commands to do the followings: • Change directory. • Create a file. • Edit a text file. • Copy and move a file. • Create a directory. • The first lab gives an introduction to Unix and Iweb machine.
