Recreational fishing is popular from the rocks at many of these beaches. Surfing is the predominant activity at McKenzies Beach and there is a public-access boat launching ramp at Mosquito Bay. Residents in Malua Bay do most of their shopping in close by Batemans Bay. Moruya Airport is some 20 kilometres from Malua Bay with daily flights to Sydney. Trains and Buses are also available. The suburb shares with adjacent suburbs a range of older houses and properties. The suburb is considered as a middle-class socio-economic area, typical of many of the suburbs within Glenorchy City Council.
