JESUS AT THE DOOR: KNOCKING Rev. 3:20
JESUS AT THE DOOR: KNOCKING • Rev. 3:20 ”Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
JESUS AT THE DOOR: KNOCKING • A church with a mistaken view of itself • It thinks itself as well of (rich, increased with goods, and have need of nothing v17) • Our Lord declares it to be in a bad condition (wretched, miserable, poor, blind, naked v17) • Our Lord calls it a “lukewarm” church • Neither cold nor hot • Being lukewarm is offensive to HIM • “I would you were cold or hot” • How do you know when one is “lukewarm” • Neglect study of the word • Neglect prayer • Neglect attending public worship • Neglect serving Christ • The danger of being “lukewarm” • “I will spit you out of my mouth” • We don’t like to stay where we are not welcome • But there is still hope • “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation”
JESUS AT THE DOOR: KNOCKING • “Behold I stand at the door and knock” • How great is the love of God; His mercy! • He is standing there, waiting “behold I stand” • Not merely standing there; but knocking • He knocks in many different ways • Through Him blessing us; hearing our prayers; healing • Through afflictions • Through the reading and hearing of His word • Through other circumstances • He is knocking at the door of your heart: do you hear Him? • Shall we still keep the doors of our heart against Him? Some will. But we can open the door. Do that.
