2. Example 1 Solve the following
2x + 3y = 4
3x – 2y= 6
Multiply the first equation by 2
Multiply the second equation by 3
4x + 6y =8
9x – 6y =18 +
13x = 26
x = 2
Substitute in the first equation x by 2
2(2) + 3y = 4
3y = 0
y = 0
3. Example 2 Solve the following
2x+ 2x =10
X - 4y = 5
Multiply the first equation by 4
Multiply the second equation by 2
8x+ 8y =40
2x- 8y = 10
10x = 50
x = 5
Then substitute x by 5 in the first equation
2(5) + 2y = 10
10 + 2y =10
2y = 0
y = 0
