  2. Cacophony • A cacophony is a noun that means a discordant sound. You would most commonly hear the word cacophony in the music business. Screeching and clamor are two synonyms to cacophony. The heavy metal band “Cacophony” called themselves such because their music had many cacophonic melodies. I would use the word cacophony to describe poorly orchestrated songs that come onto the radio.
