School Planning Requirements • T.C.A. 49-1-613. Annual school improvement plans • “(a) Effective with school year 2007-2008, each school and LEA shall include in their annual school improvementplans…..” • Effective for the school year 2016-2017, ALLschools in TN must submit school improvement plans into ePlan.

  5. 2016-17 Planning Deadlines • Sept. 30 • LEAs submit LEA plans in ePlan • Oct. 31 • LEA plans reviewed and approved by CORE • Nov. 15 • Schools submit school plans in ePlan • All schools must enter a school plan in ePlan • Dec. 15 • School plans reviewed and approved by LEA • All school plans must be approved by the LEA in ePlan

School Plan Checklist • Use the school plan checklist as your guide. • Expand each item for description of what should be in each section. • After reviewing each section, change the “Not Reviewed” status to the appropriate “OK” or “Attention Needed.” • Once “Attention Needed” is chosen, a narrative description box will open so that needed changes may be noted.

School Plan Checklist • Principal reviews as the “School Plan Reviewer” • District-level staff person reviews as the “LEA School Plan Reviewer” • Both school and LEA reviewers can utilize the checklist to approve sections or mark them “Attended Needed” • All comments made as part of the plan review are saved as part of the checklist

The Planning Team • School stakeholders • Full name and title • Parents MUST be included • Written description of how they are engaged and involved (this is new) PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to have sign-in sheets available as evidence that planning meetings took place and that all members were involved.

School Plan Needs Assessment • Elementary & Middle School Academic Data • Subjects analyzed to discover what is working/what needs improvement • High School Academic Data • Courses analyzed to discover what is working/what needs improvement • College/Career Readiness • PLAN/EXPLORE, ACT, Graduation Rate • School Climate and Culture • Attendance • Discipline issues • Human Capital • How is the school placing their teachers? • How are they getting and keeping teachers? • Additional Areas • RTI2 • Technology access and use • Professional development • Parent involvement • Summary • Overall, what is working? • Where is focus of improvement?

  16. School Plan Needs Assessment • Goals and strategies • Inherited from LEA plan • Must be extended • Made specific to the school

  17. School Plan Needs Assessment • Goals must be: • Specific • Measurable • Attainable • Relevant • Time-bound

  18. School Plan Prioritized Goals and Strategies • Action steps must be created by the school: • EXACTLY WHAT is the school going to do? (Description) • WHAT will be the EVIDENCE? (Benchmark Indicators) • WHO will be RESPONSIBLE for overseeing it? (Person Responsible) • WHEN will it be COMPLETED? (Expected Completion Date) • PLEASE NOTE: Action steps may be linked to school plan components.

  19. School Plan Components • Each component MUST be checked. • To complete the process, “LEA School Plan Reviewer” must approve the plan and verify all school plan assurances.

Returning the Plan for Revisions • Make sure each section on checklist has the correct status marked. • Make sure those sections with “Attention Needed” marked have comments regarding revisions needed. • At the top of the sections page: • choose to “Not Approve” and • click “Confirm.” • The school will get an email informing them of the return of the plan. • School will make changes • Resubmit for approval
