The disability rating is based on the severity of the condition and how it impacts the veteran's ability to function. The VA disability rating for neck and shoulder pain is from 0% to 100%. There are a few different ways that the Veterans Administration (VA) rates of disabilities. The first is by using the General Rating Formula for Chronic Pain. This formula looks at how the chronic pain condition is impacting the veteran's ability to function. The second way the VA rates disabilities is through the use of Diagnostic Code 7345. This code is specifically for neck pain. The third way the VA rates disabilities is through the use of Diagnostic Code 7346. This code is specifically for shoulder pain. The VA rating for cervicalgia is rated on a scale of 0% to 100%. A 0% rating means that the condition is not severe enough to impact the veteran's ability to function. A 100% rating means that the chronic pain condition is so severe that the veteran is unable to function. The VA will also consider the veteran's age, education, and occupation when determining the severity of the chronic pain condition.

The VA will look at the veteran's ability to perform sedentary work, light work, medium work, heavy work, and very heavy work. For example, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit offers businesses a tax credit of up to $9,600 for hiring veterans with certain disadvantages. The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program offers up to 12 months of financial assistance to unemployed veterans who wish to pursue training in a high-demand occupation. There are also a number of veteran-specific job search engines and websites, such as Veterans Affairs' Vets.gov, that can help connect businesses with veteran job seekers.
