How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Helps In Effective Wound Healing

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy or HBOT is a type of wound treatment used to ensure effective wound healing of chronic wounds, carbon monoxide poisoning, gangrene, infections, and various other conditions that restrain proper healing through standard treatment. It also includes the tissues that are deprived of oxygen, bubbles of air in blood vessels, and wounds resultants of diabetes or radiation injury.

Read more: https://woundcaresurgeon.weebly.com/blog/how-hyperbaric-oxygen-therapy-helps-in-effective-wound-healing

 1. How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Helps In Effective Wound Healing? What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? Hyperbaric oxygen therapy or HBOT is a type of wound treatment used to ensure effective wound healing of chronic wounds, carbon monoxide poisoning, gangrene, infections, and various other conditions that restrain proper healing through standard treatment. It also includes the tissues that are deprived of oxygen, bubbles of air in blood vessels, and wounds resultants of diabetes or radiation injury. If you undergo this therapy, you will be taken into a special chamber to breathe in the pure oxygen at a pressurized level 1.5 to 3 times higher than average. The agenda behind this wound care treatment is to supply enough oxygen to the blood vessels for repairing the tissues and regain normal body functionalities. In the chamber, your lungs collect much more oxygen that helps fight against bacteria and releases growth factors to promote wound healing. When Do You Need HBOT Therapy To Be Done? The tissues in the human body need a sufficient supply of oxygen to function, especially when they are injured, it requires more amount of oxygen to survive. The HBOT therapy helps in increasing the oxygen supply in your blood and with repeated treatments at Wound Care Center in Los Angeles, the extra high levels of oxygen repair tissue. Apart from this, the therapy is also used to treat several other conditions such as: ● ● ● ● Burns Chronic, non healing wounds such as Diabetic foot ulcer Sudden deafness Traumatic brain injury

 2. ● Vision loss and severe anemia Crushing injury etc. Risks Involved In Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy provides a safe, and effective medical therapy for treating chronic, non-healing wounds and other conditions but it also carries a few risks. Look at them: ● ● ● ● Middle ear injuries including leaking fluid. Decreased blood sugar in patients suffering from diabetes. Temporary myopia. Lung collapse due to air pressure changes etc. How Does HBOT work? Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is executed as an outpatient procedure but it can also be provided to the hospitalized patients. It should only be prescribed by healthcare

 3. providers and Wound care experts. There are two types of Hyperbaric oxygen chambers: ● Monoplace chamber - This is a long, plastic tube chamber for only one person that looks like an MRI machine. The patients are slipped into the chamber to breathe in the 100% pressurized oxygen chamber. ● Multiplace chamber - This chamber is designed to gather several people and therefore, it looks like a big hospital room. You can sit or lie. The procedure is quite the same but the only difference is the use of oxygen masks or hoods. The patients can comfortably sit or lie in these chambers and take a deep breath in sessions of up to 2 hours. During the therapy, you breathe in increased air pressure of about two to three times than normal air pressure which could lead to clogged ears but chewing gum can bring the ears back to the normal condition. The blood receives extra oxygen supply throughout the body and damaged tissues get started to heal.

 4. How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Helps In Treating Chronic Wounds? In a human body, only red blood cells supply oxygen through the blood but in case of an injury, it deprives crucial issues of oxygen. With a lack of oxygen, the cells are incapable of producing the necessary energy to fight against bacteria or any other essential reparative functions. The HBOT therapy makes it possible to deliver the adequate supply of oxygen needed for proper wound healing. When the blood cells get a sufficient supply of oxygen, they can fight against bacteria, decrease swelling and accelerate the speed of producing new blood vessels. Types Of Wounds HBOT Therapy Can Be Used Since Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy supports the body's overall healing process and enables cells to produce new tissues for improving functionality, it can be used to treat a variety of injuries and other health conditions. It includes: ● Diabetic Wounds ● Traumatic or surgical wounds ● Radiation wounds etc. Precautions In Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is not recommended for every patient and before going through it, it is essential to consult with Wound Care Surgeons to be aware of precautions to be taken during and after the therapy. People with several conditions such as recent ear surgery, cold or fever, or particular types of lung disease should not use this therapy.
