  4. Using the Habits of Mind • Applying past knowledge • Listening with empathy and understanding • Thinking flexibly • Questioning and posing problems

  5. Mission Impossible Activity • Select a series of visual representations i.e. 4 or 5 • Cut the representations up and insert them into an envelope with instructions. • Students in their groups open up the envelope, put the image together and glue it to an A3 sheet.

  6. Students then develop key ideas and thoughts on the image by asking several key questions; - What year was the image produced? - Who is in the image? Why? - Whose is present? - What does the image tell us about the time period? • Students present their thoughts to the rest of the class.

  11. Booklet • Students make a booklet with a front page, contents, key ideas, evidence for their Area of Studies/topics etc. • When creating the booklet, students take ownership of the booklet by using colour to complete the front cover, key ideas, and developing concept maps

SAMPLE OUTCOMES • Outcome 1A: • Ideas underpinning the settlement of and migration to Port Phillip District, including ideas about European expansion in the new world and land ownership, and the motivations of some individuals and groups; Outcome 1B: • The impact of the gold rushes and the way gold changed people’s visions of the future of the colony.
