Objectives of CAHO • To continuously raise the bar of healthcare quality • To support NABH & NABL: provide feedback and CQI initiatives • To make visible the benefits of accreditation to various stakeholders: patients, insurance, healthcare providers and industry leaders • To share best practices and learn from each other • To provide mentorship to non-accredited healthcare organisations

CAHO ACHIEVEMENTS: NATIONAL ENTRY-LEVEL STANDARDS OF ACCREDITATION • Facilitated the introduction of entry-level standards of accreditation through the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) • Promoted the entry-level standards through different State Governments and IRDA • Developed a Guidebook on the Entry-Level Accreditation Standards with NABH and the World Bank

  8. CAHO ACHIEVEMENTS: NATIONAL HEALTHCARE COMMUNICATION • Facilitated feedback for the 4th Edition of the NABH Accreditation Standards • Introduced the incorporation of healthcare communication among the 4th Edition Accreditation Standards

  9. Communication… • Started a dynamic movement on healthcare communication in the country with the development of a textbook on the subject. • Development of communication workshops all over the Country • The creation of an e-learning course on Healthcare Communication for Better Healing

  12. A MEETING OF THE TASK FORCE ON PUBLIC HEALTH POLICY, GOVT. OF KARNATAKA

CAHO POLICY ACHIEVEMENTS • Contributed to the Allied Health Sciences Bill by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare • Consulted with HCOs regarding quality • Lobbying with the government to make ultrasounds available to all for improved quality of care • Supported Ministry of Health regarding the introduction of nurse practitioners • Facilitated Nurses for a Cause for nurse empowerment

GREENING AND ENERGY INITIATIVES • MOU with Energy Efficiency Service Limited (EESL) a Government of India body to conduct the energy audits of CAHO members. • CAHO represented the accredited hospitals and laboratories in the meeting for developing plans for disaster management in hospitals and laboratories organised by National Institute of Disaster Management. • CAHO organised a Round Table meeting on greening the healthcare sector in New Delhi. • CAHO represented the accredited healthcare sector to give their feedback on the draft of the new Biomedical Waste Management rules and regulations to Government

  15. OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS • World Bank project for accreditation of Government hospitals in Karnataka.Bijapur Hospital awarded Kayakalp. • Jayanagar Govt. Hospital and KC General Hospital, Malleswaram • World Bank-NABH-IIM, Bangalore project on impact of accreditation • Training of entry-level assessors • Handholding during accreditation process in different states • Knowledge partner for the 5th International patient safety congress held in Bangalore.

  16. Technology • Mobile App for the general public for spreading awareness on healthcare quality accreditation and many other features -including locating the nearest accredited hospital and laboratory. • Evaluating software which can help implementing quality in hospitals in a major way
