1 Corinthians 12:14-16 • "14 For the body is not one member, but many. 15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?”
1 Corinthians 12:17-19 • “17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? 18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?”
INTRODUCTION • GOOD MORNING. We thank God… • Please repeat after me: We should love one another - as Christ has loved us (John 13:34). • We are so very thankful for this congregation… • VISITORS: you are our welcomed and honored guest…
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • There are few duties of the Christian life that are more important than showing our love by cooperating with God and other Christians in the work we have been assigned by the Lord to do.
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • Jesus tells us to Go and Sow the seed to every creature in every nation (Matthew 28:18-20). • Our generation must also reach out to the lost with the gospel of Christ.
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • Good news is for sharing; therefore, each Christian should be happy to share Christ with others.
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • Evangelizing the lost requires strength and endurance. However, man alone is a very helpless being. • “Two are better than one.” Therefore, Christians increase their spiritual power by cooperating and working together (Ecclesiastes 4:9).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • Cooperation is a test of intelligence. • "We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain" (2 Corinthians 6:1).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • The Holy Spirit teaches cooperative work by using the figure of the human body: “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular” (1 Corinthians 12:27).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • “From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love" (Ephesians 4:16).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • The human body is used to illustrate the church, and the figure teaches both individual and cooperative activity for the good of the whole.
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • "The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands" (Proverbs 30:27; Exodus 10:1-20).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • "Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken" (Ecclesiastes 4:11-12).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • As long as you stick together and work together, you are strong; but if you become divided, you are weak. • "We are labourers together with God" (1 Corinthians 3:9).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6). • ''Let us rise up and build” (Nehemiah 2:18; 19; 4:3, 16).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • “So built we the wall . . . for the people had a mind to work" (Nehemiah 4:6).
LOVE WILL CAUSE CHRISTIANS TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER! • In referring to the congregation in which they are members, many say, “THEY" – what "they" are doing, or what ''they" are not doing. • If one is a member, shouldn’t he refer to the church as "we," and let it be what "we" are doing?
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • First: a lack of oneness hinders cooperation. • Christians are to “Walk by the same rule, and mind the same thing" (Philippians 3:16).
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • "Stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel" (Philippians 1:27). • "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity" (Psalm 133:1)!
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • “He that soweth discord among brethren” does a hateful and an abominable thing in the sight of God(Proverbs 6:16-19). • “But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another” (Galatians 5:15).
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • Next, the word of God tells us of two contrasting dispositions that keep Christians from cooperating. • The first is Self-Depreciation(1 Corinthians 12:15-16; Matthew 25:14-30).
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • The second disposition that keeps us from cooperating in this great mission work of saving souls and keeping them saved is a Depreciation of Other Christians.
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • "And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you"(1 Corinthians 12:21).
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • A third reason why some Christians refuse to cooperate in the work of the church is due to a self-willed spirit (Titus 1:7; 1 Peter 5:3).
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • This leads to a fourth reason that prevents cooperation, and that is a lack of understanding between the overseers (who are the elders, bishops, or pastors) and the other members of the flock.
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • There is no point in having leadership unless you have "follow-ship." Both are essential. • The elders should lead the flock, as our two fine pastors are doing here.
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • We are commanded to “obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account” (Hebrews 13:17).
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • Loved ones, from the short time we’ve been here, we have come to know and praise God for the many workers in this congregation.
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • A disciple is someone who has moved from being a RECIPIENT of the church's mission to being RESPONSIBLE for the church's mission. • So, keep it up. Don’t let Satan or any of his helpers stop you.
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • To the rest, we ask: Are you cooperating in the body’s efforts to reach the lost?...
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • Are you cooperating in passing out our “soul-business cards,” tracts and other literature?
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • Maybe your pride-filled heart won’t allow you to humble yourself and perform this type of individual work. • Is it beneath your grandiose efforts? Please repent and get to work.
WHY SOME CHRISTIANS FAIL TO COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER • To Sum It Up: If everyone in this congregation would cooperate or fail to cooperate in our work as you do, what kind of church would this be?
