  3. 68th ANNUAL FREE WINTER YOUTH CONSERVATION PROGRAM The Zimmer Club youth program uses the great outdoors as a classroom to teach youngsters about outdoor activities, conservation, and embracing nature. Our program blends learning with recreation in the belief that this approach heightens the participant's environmental awareness. We introduce youngsters to activities that bring conservation topics to life such as environmental conservation, estuary systems, Blue and Greenbelt management, hunting, fishing (both salt and fresh-water), boating, first aid, camping, gun safety, archery, marksmanship, and how to use a compass and read a map. Please register by Email. ALL CLASSES ARE FREE TO GIRLS AND BOYS UNDER 18(Classes are for ages 10 to 17. If a child under 10 wishes to attend they must have a parent or guardian present during the class)

  4. WEEK 1 – PANCAKE BREAKFASTREGISTRATION, ORIENTATION, NYFD COMPUTERREISTRATION & PROGRAM ORENTATION PANCAKE BREAKFAST and NYFD SAFETY INSTRUCTION

  5. WEEK 2 – COMPASS & MAP COMPASS INSTRUCTION MAP READING INDIVIDUAL COMPASSES GO OVER THE LANDSCAPE GET ORINTATED FOLLOW THE MAP

  6. WEEK 3 –EMERGENCY FIRST AID SLING IMOBLIZE THE ARM CPR SPLINTS INJURIES HANDS ON

  7. WEEK 4 – FISHINGSALT & FRESH WATER PARTS OF A FISH IDENTIFY THE FISH FAMILY STRING THE POLE TIE A FISHERMANS KNOT SELECT BATE OR LURE CASTING THE LINE

  8. WEEK 5 – FIREARMSSAFETY and BLACK POWDER

  9. WEEK 6 – MEET THE POLICE& OUR LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS NYS DEC USPP MOUNTED OFFICER NYC PEP NYC Councilwoman Rose NYC Councilman Borelli NYS Assemblyman Cusick

  10. WEEK 7 – CAMPING PREPARE LUNCH COOK UNFOLD THE TENT ASSEMBLE THE TENT TENT’S UP HAVE LUNCH

  11. WEEK 8 – SAFE BOATING CERTIFICATION CLASS To be eligible youths must have reached their 10th birthday prior to the date of the course. Upon completion of eight (8) hours of classroom instruction a test will be administered by certified New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation instructors. A safe boating certificate will then be issued to operate a water craft with limited adult supervision.

  12. WEEK 9 – CONSERVATION & THE ENVIRONMENT AT CLAY PIT PARK

  13. WEEK 10 – MARKSMANSHIPTARGET SHOOT Eligible participants (12 to 17 years old) will be taken to an outdoor range for a target shoot. They will be individually supervised by BSA Venture Crew 2700 instructors in gun safety, range procedures, and shooting techniques.

  14. WEEK 11 – ARCHERY Eligible participants (10 to 17 years old) will beintroduced to the sport of Archery in a classroom setting. Participants will be learn about the different types of bows and arrows in use today. Their unique functions and parts. After which, they will be taken to the archery range where BSA Venture Crew 10 & SI Edge Archery instructors will school them in safety, range procedures, and shooting techniques. Culminating in a marksmanship tournament.

  15. WEEK 12 – S.I. WILDLIFE& AWARD LUNCHEON LIVE SERPENTS, LIZARDS, ARACHNIDS, TURTLES, AND AMPHIBIANS AWARD LUNCHEON

  16. WEEK 13 - Sportsman Education Age and hour requirement In order to hunt in New York State (NYS) you must first attend a Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) sponsored “Sportsman Education Course.” This Course is conducted by DEC certified instructors in April. Once completed, students qualify and may obtain a NYS Hunting/Fishing License.

  17. Archery Venturing ClubUses a Recurve Bow The club’s Archery Venturing Club open to all High School age youths. Interested students: Registration is on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM when the temperature is above 40 degrees

  18. Staten Island Edge Archery ClubUses a Geneses Compound Bow The SI Edge Archery Club is open to youths over 10 years old. Interested students must contact the Zimmer Club by email at Info@AEZClub.com
