  2. Take out a sheet of paper • Name on it • (Every time you get a new paper, write your name in the margin)

  3. Talk about the setting, using the wordsBucolic Ennui • Bucolic: adj. related to farming. • Ennui: noun--Boredom • Because the speaker sensed a feeling of ennui settling over the audience, he told a joke.

  4. Introduce a character (the hero):epitome • Epitome: noun. A typical example • As he entered the room, it was clear that Beowulf was the epitome of the hero.

  5. Give more detail about that character:empirical • Empirical: adj. based on experience rather than theory • Ex: He was the first to present empirical data to support the argument that smoking is harmful. • Synonym: observable

  6. Describe his/her favorite thing:desiccated • Adj. • Dried up • When she opened the old bible, one yellow, desiccated rose fell to the floor.

  7. Introduce a plague or problem local to the setting: endemic • Noun / adjective • Once it had been endemic to Africa, but now it is becoming a world-wide epidemic. • DON’T USE THE FLU

  8. Introduce a victim: emanate • verb • To come forth; to send forth • She tried to control her anger, but harsh words began to emanate from her lips.

  9. Explain the victim’s problem:eschew • verb • To keep away from; to avoid • Embrace virtue and eschew sin was the theme of the minister’s sermon.

  10. What does the hero do?:deviate • verb: - to turn aside • Sometimes its better to deviate from the truth rather than hurt someone’s feelings.

  11. Give more detail and solve the problem: elixir ephemeral • Noun – remedy for ailments • He drank the elixir. • Ephemeral – lasting only a short time • The celebrity who doesn’t realize that fame is ephemeral is in for a rude awakening.

  12. End your story: elucidate • verb • To make clear • To elucidate and bolster his argument, he drew a large chart on the board. • Syn. explain/clarify

  13. Return your story to the person that began it. • Vocab test on Tuesday
