Skills to Ensure Kindergarten Success • Group Work – Taking Turns and Sharing • Individual Work – Working quietly • Partner Work – Leadership Skills • Listening Attentively • Following Directions Given • Staying On-Task for Extended Work Periods
Lunch • Five school lunch choices each day • 2 hot lunch choices (always one vegetarian) • Yogurt • Grab and Go • Sunbutter and Jelly • Lunch from home can be brought any day • Students will enter a five-digit pin number daily
Daily Transportation • You will receive a postcard in the mail from the bus company listing your bus stop and time. • We use color-coded wristbands the first week. • Teachers escort students to the bus door. • We use upper grade students as buddies the first week. • Daily car riders will sign up in the • office and receive a placard to • use each day.
Adventure Club • Before and/or after school care for Graden students • Fee based • Before school hours: 6:30 – 8:35 a.m. • After school hours: 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. • Open on inclement weather (snow) days and non-school days. • Site manager: Susan Cook • District Phone: 359-4064 • Enroll soon – they do have a waiting list! • See white form in folder for additional information
What Can You Do To Help Now? • Read, read, and read some more! • Play games to promote listening, following directions, taking turns, and sharing. • Start and/or keep a schedule or daily routine for your child. • Practice self-help skills. (buttoning, tying, zipping, etc.) • Use your environment as a learning tool (numbers, letters)
Ways to Help in the Classroom • Volunteer your time to help the teacher and work with students • Volunteer from home • Send in supplies • Chaperone field trips • Classroom parties
Our Goals as Kindergarten Teachers • Help your child have a successful 1st year of school • Provide a caring and nurturing environment where your child can learn • Guide your child in learning • Maintain open lines of communication
Summer School • June 4-22, 2012 • 8:00-12:00 Monday – Friday • FREE! • Provide your own transportation • Location: Graden Elementary • Fill out enrollment form included in your folder. • Mark “kindergarten” as the grade level.
