Welcome to Training Wheels • New employees will learn 4 of 8 necessary skills • Communication skills • Decision making skills • Collaborative skills • Creative skills • These skills will improve chances of hire and promotion. • You can receive a parking pass and two paid vacation days!
THE PROBLEM • There is currently a huge skill gap: employees aren't meeting the requirements of an ideal worker. • Proper training was not received • Correction of this problem will : • benefit the company • improve your skills • raise your chances of hire.
Overview of Trainingwheels • Training wheels will refine communication, decision making, collaboration, and creative skills • You will go through four workshops; one for each skill • Activities will stimulate the work skills we know you have.
COMMUNICATION • Being able to understand and be understood • You will need to be able to express opinions and ideas and communicate with clients • Express opinions. • Useful for advertisement, sales pitch, idea pitch, etc.
COMMUNICATION • You will participate a communication enhancement activity. This process will help you understand the value of communication skills. • PROCEDURE: • You’ll receive a card with a specific task on it, take a few minutes to come up with very detailed instruction. Your partner will be blindfolded. • Using your communication skills, instruct your partner on how to perform the given task. • when the task is completed, switch places with your partner.
COMMUNICATION • DESIRED OUTCOME: • You will hopefully understand the importance of communication skills in the workplace. • You will gain valuable communication skills that you will need in any future endeavors.
DECISION MAKING • Weigh out the positives and negatives of a decision • Making practical and good decisions • Think of the company as a whole • Understand a small choice can affect a company greatly
DECISION MAKING • You’ll be required to fill out a self evaluation listing your strength and weaknesses. After, you’ll participate in a group activity working on your decision making techniques. • PROCEDURE: • Fill out self evaluation. • You’ll be put into small groups and given a situation. • Together, you’ll come up with a decision, and what the outcomes of the decision is. • You’ll present this and receive feed back from the other groups and be evaluated on your decision.
DECISION MAKING • DESIRED OUTCOME: • You’ll understand the importance of making the right decision. • Use good decision making techniques. • Pick out decisions that are good even though they may not be the easiest.
COLLABORATION • You’ll learn to work together and contribute your best assets. • Compensate for others and work in unison. • Cooperate with others on team. • Together, give your best to the company.
COLLABORATION • This activity will stimulate collaborative skills. • You will learn to work in unison with your team, compensating for each other’s weakness and contributing your strongest skills. • Procedure: • Split into groups of five • Analyze the scenario • Work together to find a solution for the scenario • Give a short presentation on the solution and how the group came about solving the problem.
COLLABORATION • DESIRED OUTCOME: • Work together cohesively • Grasp the concept of collaborating to benefit the company. • Learn the importance of working together.
CREATIVITY • Going the extra mile for the company • Expand ways of thinking • Expressing their way of thinking • New ways to approach/solve a situation
CREATIVITY • Required to fill out self evaluation, [self-scoring] • Group activity where you’ll find creative ways to approach and solve given situation • PROCEDURE: • Fill out self evaluation and self score it. • Put into groups of five, each group with different situation • Find creative ways to approach and solve • Present what you came up with and will receive feedback.
CREATIVITY • DESIRED OUTCOME: • Come up with unique ways to get work done • Find new ways to approach and solve certain problems • Resist the urge to always jump to the straight forward ways
