EAWR Chpt 4 – Rhetorical Analysis • A close reading of the text to find out how (and whether) it works to persuade • How well do the arguments work together? • Pg 98 – questions to ask about the subject matter • Answer each question AND provide evidence/quotes/reasons you think that. http://harlotofthearts.org/issues/issue_2/mccorkle/obama-poster/index.htm

  5. Peer Revision/Editing (40 points) • Even professional writers have editors: • A good peer editor makes a better self-editor because you learn by correcting other peoples’ work! • Treat your peer’s paper like you’ll be graded on his/her errors and weaknesses. • Do’s • Take this serious, you will be graded on the quality and quantity of your comments. • Comment in a polite, respectful language/tone • Explain your comments, so if you say “I Liked it,” explain why! If you say “this is bad” explain how to improve it. • Don’ts • Correct every spelling/ grammar mistake (the author should use spell check!) • Fill the paper with vague comments like “great job” and “interesting” • Insult the author • Phrases such as “this sucks”, instead phrase as “This could be better if you added in…”

  6. Peer Revision/Editing Why work with a partner? What is due tonight In this order: Final Paper emailed to me +hard copy (100 points) Peer Edit (40 points) Rough Draft (50 points) • Read it aloud to the author. • Detect logical inconsistencies (stuff that makes sense to you may not make sense to a reader).
