Overview • What is a portal? • How does it use certificates?
What is a Portal? • 1. In simple terms , • A Portal generates framework, and • Portlets fill in the contents • 2. This is: http://portal.ngs.ac.uk/
NGS portal • Grids are about people collaborating, so give tools for this! • Need to run jobs, access data, … from different machines and places – but do NOT want to • carry certificate everywhere! • install GT2 before you can use any commands or resources • Using the command line tools is tedious; simple tasks can be achieved easily in a portal • Also, easy interface to the Information Service
Certificates, MyProxy • Rather than storing your Grid credentials on each machine you use to access the Grid, you can store them in a MyProxy repository and retrieve a proxy credential from the MyProxy repository when needed. • MyProxy is part of VDT • A MyProxy server is run for the NGS portal • Before you can use the NGS portal, you must upload a proxy certificate: Java Web Start tool • http://tiber.dl.ac.uk:8080/myproxy
Development • New portlets are en route… • New portal release en route (~ April ) • Improve Standards compliance • So a project’s portlet container could run the portlets provided in the NGS portal
Try it… • NGS Portal • http://portal.ngs.ac.uk • Upload User Proxy • Use Java Web Start tool • http://tiber.dl.ac.uk:8080/myproxy
