Anniesland College – A Community College • 1 of 41 Further Education Colleges in Scotland • Opened in 1964 to serve the local Shipbuilding and Engineering industry • Training and educating engineering apprentices for over 45 years • Annual Turnover - £14m • Student Numbers – circa. 10,000 • Employees – circa. 300 • Recently moved into a new £53 Million state of the art College campus

Economic Context • UK unemployment 2.5million • 1+ million 16-24 yrs without job (UK) • Scottish unemployment 230,000 • Govt focus – young people; up-skilling and re-training existing workforce • Glasgow Commonwealth 2014 Initiative to provide a vocational training place for every school leaver • SG guarantee every 16 – 19 yr old a training place, additional support of 19 – 25 yr olds

VLE Developments @ Anniesland There are currently courses & learning materials available in the following departments: Business and Digital Technologies English for Speakers of Other Languages & Highers Care, Health and Communities Engineering and Construction Creative Industries and Sport Learner Development

VLE Platform: Moodle • Course Management System • Learner centred • Courses can be accessed at any time from any location with internet access. • Facilitates blended learning by allowing course content to be put online and allows time for face to face discussions, questions and problem solving.
